Citizens of Ukraine and Sudan will be able to continue to legally reside and work on the territory of the United States. The US Department of Homeland Security made the corresponding decision, confirming the retention of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for representatives of both countries.

What is TPS status

The TPS mechanism is designed for foreigners who are already present on US territory. It grants them the right to remain in the country legally and obtain work authorisation. Such protection applies if an armed conflict is ongoing in the person's home country, a natural disaster has occurred, or other extraordinary circumstances have arisen.

Duration of protection

As noted by Reuters, the current status for citizens of Ukraine and Sudan was set to expire today. Despite this, US officials officially confirmed that the protective status has been extended, allowing the specified categories of foreigners to legally reside in the country and work.
