Change of ownership deal
Kazakh oligarch Kenes Rakishev, who has long-standing personal ties with the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has reached an agreement to sell BTA Bank Ukraine. The buyer is NovaPay Invest, a company owned by the Nova group. This structure is linked to the founders of the Nova Poshta logistics network — Vyacheslav Klimov and Volodymyr Poperezhniuk.
The deal value is not disclosed. To implement the plan, it is necessary to obtain the relevant permits from Ukrainian regulatory bodies. It is worth noting that Rakishev had previously attempted to dispose of this asset by approaching other potential investors, but none of the previous attempts were successful.
Bank's financial condition and parent company strategy
According to data as of 1 September, BTA Bank Ukraine's assets amounted to approximately 306.9 million hryvnia. By this indicator, the financial institution ranked 59th, i.e. last, in the country's banking system. The divestment of this asset is part of the BTA group's overall strategy aimed at exiting the banking sector.
Personal ties with Ramzan Kadyrov
Kenes Rakishev is known for his long-standing personal relationship with the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov. As early as 2015, Kadyrov publicly called the Kazakh businessman a "dear brother", emphasising that their friendship has lasted many years and is independent of official positions or material circumstances.
In addition, Kadyrov mentioned the charitable assistance provided by Rakishev to Chechens. For his contribution to strengthening friendship between Kazakhstan and Chechnya, the businessman was awarded the Order of Kadyrov.
