Trump administration cuts nearly all foreign aid

Sharp funding cuts
The administration of the 45th US President, Donald Trump, announced the termination of over 90% of international aid programmes funded through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). According to data outlined in a lawsuit, thousands of grants totalling approximately $57 billion were frozen or cancelled.

Scale of the blockage
According to official data:
5,800 USAID grants have been fully terminated, with a further 500 blocked;
4,100 government grants have been cancelled, while 2,700 have been retained;
297 contracts remain under review.

Blow to non-profit organisations
The sharp reduction in funding has paralysed the operations of numerous humanitarian and charitable programmes worldwide. Meanwhile, the majority of USAID staff were placed on leave or dismissed, which effectively led to the halt of key projects.

Legal battles
The Trump administration submitted its report as part of the legal proceedings initiated against this measure. The State Department, led by Marco Rubio, stated that each decision to suspend funding was made individually, based on US national interests. However, the plaintiffs challenged this claim, pointing out that it is physically impossible to review thousands of contracts in such a short time.
