Biden will not ban TikTok
US President Joe Biden will not initiate a ban on TikTok in the country, leaving the decision on the matter to the incoming administration of Donald Trump, AP reports, citing sources.
Last year, Congress signed a law requiring TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell its stake in the app by 19 January — one day before the inauguration of the new president. The outgoing Biden administration is leaving the resolution of this issue to the Republicans.
Donald Trump, who had previously called for a ban on TikTok, later stated that he would work to keep the app available in the US. Trump's national security adviser Waltz noted on Thursday that the law allows for an extension of the deadline if a viable deal is being considered at the time it expires.
It is reported that TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew intends to attend Trump's inauguration.
