Georgia was offered to open a second front against Russia

Georgian authorities have again stated that they were offered the opportunity to open a second front against Russia at the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said he was told: “Украина побеждает в войне, и вы не должны упустить этот шанс” (Ukraine is winning the war, and you should not miss this chance). However, he did not specify who exactly made this proposal.

“Эти слова мы услышали в закрытых переговорах, когда нас призывали начать военные действия против Российской Федерации. Теперь, по мере развития событий, мы видим, что наш выбор был абсолютно правильным и оправданным” (We heard these words in closed negotiations, when we were called upon to start military actions against the Russian Federation. Now, as events unfold, we see that our choice was absolutely correct and justified), Kobakhidze stated.

The Prime Minister noted that Georgia’s position aligns with the views of former US President Donald Trump. He emphasised that many of the statements for which they had been accused of holding pro-Russian and anti-Western views are now being repeated by the new US administration. “То, что мы говорили на протяжении последних трех лет, теперь подтверждается новой администрацией США, особенно в отношении Украины” (What we have been saying over the past three years is now being confirmed by the new US administration, especially regarding Ukraine), he added.

Kobakhidze also noted that restoring Ukraine to its 2014 state would require “100 years”. He expressed doubts about the motives behind the events taking place: “Зачем все это было сделано? Ответа на этот вопрос нет. Но есть одна версия — глобальные интересы, которые пожертвовали нашей дружественной страной ради собственных целей. Это трагедия, и мы должны постараться избежать подобного исхода для нашей страны” (Why was all this done? There is no answer to this question. But there is one version — global interests that sacrificed our friendly country for their own goals. This is a tragedy, and we must try to avoid such an outcome for our country), the Georgian Prime Minister concluded.
