Google removes Russian news sites from search

More than 200 websites of Russian television channels were removed from Google search results following their blocking. This move was a response to an official request from Lithuania, LRT.lt reports.

According to the Lithuanian publication, the removal of sites subject to European Union sanctions was carried out at the initiative of the Lithuanian Commission for Radio and Television (LRTB). As explained by the commission, if a user now attempts to access such a site via the Google search bar, it will not appear in the results.

This step is part of Lithuania's efforts to combat the propaganda of Russian television channels, which, according to authorities, spread disinformation. The LRTB noted that this is not the first instance of cooperation with Google: previously, the company had removed sites at the commission's request due to copyright violations.

In addition, it is worth recalling that in November of last year, Russia imposed a fine on Google of 20 quadrillion dollars.
