Chrystia Freeland runs for Canadian prime minister

Former Canadian Deputy Prime Minister of Ukrainian descent Chrystia Freeland has officially announced her candidacy in the upcoming election for head of government.

The launch of her election campaign is scheduled for Sunday.

Freeland, who previously served as Foreign Minister and Finance Minister, left the government in December last year. Her departure was linked to disagreements with incumbent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, particularly over his approach to relations with the United States.
