A new fraud case has emerged in the cryptocurrency community, attracting the attention of many users. Alexander Chigaev, a popular crypto blogger, has found himself at the centre of a scandal involving financial schemes. Blogger Mobimes, who became a victim of the scam, reported losing $10,000 in just a few minutes after falling into Chigaev's trap.
Growing interest in cryptocurrencies and new threats
Year on year, an increasing number of Ukrainians are becoming interested in cryptocurrencies and online investments. However, as the popularity of digital assets grows, so does the number of fraudsters who exploit user trust for personal gain. Alexander Chigaev is one such fraudster who, by manipulating the trust of his audience, devised a scheme that resulted in losses for many investors.
How Chigaev lured investors into a trap
Mobimes recounted that about a year ago, he came across Chigaev's Telegram channel. The blogger shared useful analytics and investment strategies that attracted user attention. Later, Chigaev announced the launch of a copy trading programme—a scheme in which investors transfer their funds to a "manager" who replicates successful trades.
Profit promises and hidden schemes
As Mobimes recalls, the project's terms appeared highly attractive: by investing $10,000, the funds remained on the exchange, while Chigaev took a commission of 30–40% of the profits. The investment required no additional steps, which fostered user trust. "Chigaev promised guaranteed profits, and I decided to try it," Mobimes says.
A month later, Chigaev announced that the first wave of copy trading had concluded successfully, with all investors receiving a 25% profit. He regularly published reports, testimonials from participants, and screenshots of documents, which only strengthened trust. However, it later emerged that many of these reviews were forged using bots.
How Mobimes lost $10,000
Once Mobimes had gathered the required sum, he contacted Chigaev, created an account on the exchange, and topped up his balance. However, shortly afterwards, all the money disappeared. "I checked everything a hundred times and did not grant withdrawal rights, but through special software, Chigaev manipulated my assets, selling coins at an inflated price and then buying them back at a discounted rate. It all happened in two minutes," the victim recounts.
After the money vanished, Chigaev blocked Mobimes on all social media platforms and deleted the correspondence, disappearing without a trace. Attempts to recover the funds proved futile.
Caution is the key to protection against fraudsters
Unfortunately, such schemes are becoming increasingly common. Fraudsters create the illusion of successful projects by using fake reviews and documents. They promise quick earnings, but ultimately, victims lose everything. Mobimes hopes his story will serve as a lesson to others:
"I could not understand how I fell for it so easily. I did not check everything thoroughly and did not doubt Chigaev's honesty. It was my mistake, and it cost me dearly. But perhaps my story will help at least one person avoid a similar error," he admits.
What to do if you have become a victim of fraudsters
If you have encountered similar schemes or lost money due to fraudsters, do not remain silent. Contact law enforcement agencies and warn other users. Vigilance and critical thinking are the primary ways to protect yourself from scammers.
