Mines found at Polish IKEA warehouse

Staff at a Polish IKEA warehouse discovered 240 anti-tank mines that had been mistakenly shipped with a furniture cargo. 

The incident has triggered extensive investigations within the military, and the responsible servicemen now face up to five years in prison.

The explosive devices were found during the unloading of goods. It emerged that the mines had inadvertently ended up in the cargo because the rail wagons used to transport the furniture had previously been employed for moving ammunition. 

After the completion of military operations, soldiers forgot to remove the mines, which ultimately entered IKEA’s logistics chain.

The situation was exacerbated when a Polish general attempted to conceal the loss of the mines by ordering his subordinates to forge documents to mask the shortage. This case attracted attention from both the public and military leadership.
