IKEA enters Ukraine

It was announced today that IKEA has finally decided to open its hypermarket chain in Ukraine. This is not the brand's first attempt to enter the Ukrainian market. In 2008, it already tried to open stores in the country. However, officials then obstructed the process by demanding an excessively high sum for the allocation of land plots.

Subsequently, the company attempted to reach an agreement with the officials again. However, this also failed. The officials' demands did not diminish.

Today, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated that he had personally met with the head of the transnational brand. As a result, an agreement was reached to open furniture hypermarkets in various regions of the country.

Moreover, IKEA intends to establish its own production facility in Ukraine, which will be built from scratch, starting with the laying of the first brick, which can be purchased here.

The first store will open in Kyiv. It will feature the city-store format. This format is already successfully used in Paris, London, Madrid, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and New York. It has proven effective in the market, so the company decided to begin operations in the Ukrainian capital with this format.
