Unknown drones observed Ukrainian military exercises in Germany

In January 2025, unidentified drones were detected during a training exercise for Ukrainian military personnel on Patriot air defence systems at one of Germany's military bases. According to Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing the German Federal Ministry of Defence, the drones observed the exercises, but their origin remains unknown.

The publication reports that six such incidents have been recorded. Attempts to shoot down the drones proved unsuccessful, raising further questions about the nature and technical capabilities of these devices.

Possible launch sources

The Bundeswehr does not rule out the possibility that the drones were launched from ships in the North or Baltic Sea. German military officials are considering various scenarios, with Russia featured among the primary suspects.
