Danish Prime Minister discusses security and Greenland with Trump

On 15 January, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen held a lengthy conversation with newly elected US President Donald Trump, the main subject of which was his recent statements regarding Greenland. 

During the 45-minute discussion, Frederiksen emphasised that the future of the island must be determined by Greenland itself.

According to the Danish Prime Minister's office, she supported the position of the Greenlandic Prime Minister, Mute Egede, who stated that the island is not for sale and must independently decide on matters of its independence.

Frederiksen also addressed security issues in the Arctic region, noting that Denmark is ready to take on additional commitments to strengthen security in this strategically important area.

In addition, she highlighted the contribution of Danish companies to the US economy and job creation in the country, as well as pointing to the importance of strengthening trade relations between the European Union and the United States.

The conversation also touched on other significant international topics, such as the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East crisis, and relations with China. The Danish Prime Minister and the future US President agreed to continue the dialogue in the future, Frederiksen's press office reported.
