US President Donald Trump stated that he is ready to allow European states to purchase American weapons for Ukraine. According to experts, such a step could open up new opportunities for the Ukrainian army, even if the US limits its aid in the future, Bloomberg reports.

Uncertainty over the implementation of the initiative

Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether this prospect will become reality. Trump advocates for the earliest possible ceasefire in Ukraine, and Kyiv fears that the US President and Russian leader Vladimir Putin may reach an agreement that does not take Ukraine's interests into account. Previously, Trump has repeatedly stated that Europe should assume a greater financial burden in the context of the conflict in Ukraine.

European context: the need for Europe's involvement in the peace process

At the same time, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasised that the US and Russia cannot conclude a peace agreement on Ukraine without the participation of European countries. He noted that a long-term peace is unlikely to be achieved without European security guarantees.
