Trump will fail to create conditions for a peace deal

According to The Times, Donald Trump will not be able to create the conditions for a peace agreement that would satisfy Vladimir Putin. The main reason is that the Russian leader pursues a goal far removed from compromise: he seeks to turn Ukraine into a satellite state and subjugate it to his interests. The very existence of an independent Ukrainian state contradicts his ambitions.

The publication notes that the war unleashed by Russia is not aimed at the conquest of territory. Putin's goals lie much deeper and are linked to attempts to undermine Ukraine's sovereignty, suppress its independence, and turn it into an instrument of influence in the region.

In the view of The Times analysts, attempts by external players, including Trump, to achieve a peaceful settlement will not be able to change Putin's fundamental aspirations, as his strategic interests do not allow for coexistence with an independent Ukraine.
