Protests in Israel against peace deal with Hamas

Mass protests have begun in Israel against the agreement with Hamas, with thousands taking to the streets of Jerusalem with slogans condemning the authorities' decision. Demonstrators express deep concern that the release of terrorists could lead to a new escalation of violence in the region.

Criticism of the deal with Hamas is also coming from members of the ruling coalition. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir stated his readiness to resign and withdraw his party, "Otzma Yehudit", from the government if the agreement is ratified. 

The leader of the ultra-religious party "Religious Zionism" and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also condemned the deal, emphasising that it poses a threat to Israel's national security.

The ceasefire agreement signed by Israel with Hamas is temporary and is set for 42 days. This raises concerns among politicians and citizens of the country, who believe that such concessions jeopardise the key objectives of the Israeli military campaign.
