Europe cannot assume defensive functions

The European continent lacks the necessary resources to effectively support Ukraine's defence and ensure its own security. This assessment of the situation was made by Austrian military expert Markus Reissner in an interview with Deutsche Welle.

According to the analyst, currently only the United States has the capacity to provide real assistance to Ukraine in its defence. At the same time, he notes that US President Donald Trump currently has "other plans". (other plans)

Dependence on American technologies

Reissner emphasised that the only effective tool for countering jet-powered drones and missile strikes remains the American Patriot air defence systems. In his opinion, Europe made a serious mistake by not creating its own analogues of these systems.

In addition, the expert drew attention to the fact that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have a critical dependence on the American Starlink satellite communication network.

Concern over Washington's position

Summing up, Markus Reissner stated that only the United States can provide Ukraine with real assistance. However, his "serious concern" is caused by Donald Trump's recent statements, which, according to the expert, are supported by Elon Musk.
