Critical damage to production facilities

Polish company Cersanit, a leader in the Ukrainian market for ceramic tile and sanitary ware production, has officially announced the complete cessation of production at its plant in the city of Zvyahel in Zhytomyr region. The decision was made by the company's board of directors against the backdrop of repeated drone attacks that caused serious damage to the infrastructure.

As stated in the company's official statement, the facility suffered two drone strikes: the first occurred on the night of 11 to 12 September, and the second on the night of 15 to 16 October. As a result of these strikes, the building and key elements of the technological line were severely damaged. Although all employees who were on the factory premises at the time of the attacks were successfully evacuated, and none of them were injured, the scale of the destruction currently prevents the resumption of the production process.

Staff safety as a priority

Cersanit representatives emphasised that under current conditions, they cannot guarantee safe working conditions. The company stresses that human safety is its highest priority, and therefore it cannot expose employees to risk.

«Інтенсивні атаки, часті повітряні тривоги та пов’язані з ними евакуації (навіть кілька разів на день), тимчасові перебої в електропостачанні та падіння напруги роблять неможливою стабільну й безпечну роботу. Безпека людей для нас понад усе, і ми не можемо наражати їх на ризик» (Intense attacks, frequent air raid alerts and associated evacuations (even several times a day), temporary power outages and voltage drops make stable and safe work impossible. Human safety is paramount for us, and we cannot expose them to risk), the company's message reads.

Company status in the region

The plant in Zvyahel district has been operating since 2007 and is one of the largest employers in Zhytomyr region. According to Forbes Ukraine data, Cersanit remains the largest producer of ceramic tiles and sanitary ware in Ukraine.
