Approval of defensive mission
The Egyptian parliament supported President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's initiative by a two-thirds majority, which provides for military assistance to Saudi Arabia in its confrontation with the Houthis.
The adopted decision grants the head of state the authority to involve the country's armed forces in the defence of the kingdom.
Limitations on the nature of participation
Previously, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi emphasised that any potential presence of Egyptian troops would be exclusively of a defensive nature.
According to him, the goal is to protect Saudi Arabia, not to carry out offensive strikes on Yemeni territory.
