Georgiy Tikhyy explains cause of diplomatic tension between Kyiv and Seoul

Cause of the diplomatic dispute

Georgiy Tikhyy, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the strained relations between Kyiv and Seoul that emerged following an incident involving the transfer of prisoners of war. According to him, the cause of the misunderstanding was "differences in the interpretation of the confidentiality regime" on the part of both states.

Seeking a compromise

The official representative of the Foreign Ministry emphasised that the Ukrainian and South Korean sides are currently actively trying to resolve the situation. Closed diplomatic channels are being used for this purpose.

Seoul's reaction

Previously, South Korea expressed dissatisfaction with the "insufficient" apologies received from Ukraine regarding this incident. Against the backdrop of these statements, the South Korean side considered the possibility of recalling its ambassador from Ukraine.
