The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has completed the transfer of six packages of sanctions proposals to European partners. The restrictions target Russian enterprises involved in the development and production of ballistic missiles. This was announced by the ministry's spokesperson, Georgiy Tikhyy, during a briefing.
Targets of the sanctions campaign
According to Tikhyy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is conducting a special campaign aimed at pressuring the Russian military-industrial complex. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha regularly raises the issue of strengthening such restrictions during negotiations with European representatives.
The transferred packages concern specific factories and research institutes responsible for the creation of the Iskander-M, RM-48U, and other ballistic systems. Work on new restrictions is ongoing: diplomats are currently processing measures against manufacturers of cruise missiles and strike drones.
Countering the Rassvet satellite system
A separate area of activity for Ukrainian diplomats is countering Russia's plans to launch the Rassvet satellite communication system. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating this work with the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
The main goal is to prevent the use of this infrastructure for the remote control of Shahed jet drones and other means of destruction used against Ukrainian cities.
«Наше завдання, серед іншого, щоб реактивні "Шахеди" та інші засоби не літали по українських містах під дистанційним керуванням російських операторів із застосуванням таких засобів, як "Рассвет", — пояснив Георгій Тихий. (Our task, among other things, is to ensure that jet-powered Shaheds and other means do not fly over Ukrainian cities under the remote control of Russian operators using tools such as Rassvet, – explained Georgiy Tikhyy.)
To achieve these goals, Ukraine interacts with Euro-Atlantic partners within the framework of the International Telecommunication Union and at the bilateral level.
Role of the US and work on frozen assets
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that Ukrainian diplomats have already raised the issue of Rassvet twice during meetings with US congressmen. Kyiv believes that Washington can play a significant role in preventing the launch of this system.
«Розуміємо, що йдеться не лише про протидію Росії, а також про протистояння з Китаєм. Вважаємо, що Сполучені Штати зацікавлені в тому, щоб включитися в протидії "Рассвету", — додав Тихий. (We understand that this is not only about countering Russia, but also about the confrontation with China. We believe that the United States is interested in joining the counteraction to Rassvet, – Tikhyy added.)
The ministry also informed about its participation in an interdepartmental working group on the use of Russian assets, headed by Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi. According to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, partner countries have frozen a total of approximately 330 billion euros of Russian assets in various jurisdictions. Ukraine continues negotiations on creating mechanisms that will ensure long-term financing of the country from these resources.
