Condition for resuming dialogue

Russian leader Vladimir Putin will be ready to return to the negotiation process with Ukraine only on the condition that the part of Donbas still under the control of Ukrainian armed forces is handed over to Russian control. This was reported by Reuters, citing a source close to the Kremlin.

“Putin will return to the negotiating table only when he 'gets the remaining 11% of Donbas, which he can present domestically as a victory',” the publication’s source emphasised.

The role of the US-Russia diesel deal

The main part of the Reuters material is devoted to discussing the diesel deal between the United States and the Russian Federation. According to sources, this agreement aims to soften Moscow’s position and encourage its return to peace negotiations.

As the publication notes, a source close to the Kremlin expressed a similar view, stating that the deal on the supply of diesel fuel serves as a mechanism for returning Russia to the negotiation process.

Initiatives by Trump’s special envoys

According to published information, Ukrainian officials were briefed on the details of these intentions by US President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during talks preceding the meeting in Miami.

One of the publication’s interlocutors explained the logic behind the American side’s actions: “The idea was that the US could go back to Russia and say: 'You see, the Ukrainians have stopped the strike, and we have concluded this deal with you. Now it is your turn to do something'”.
