The United Kingdom has decided to provide Ukraine with additional financial support. The total amount of funds will be £10bn. These funds will be directed towards ensuring the state's economic stability over the next three years, as well as supplying the necessary weapons.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the details of this agreement. He stated that he discussed the specifics of the support during a conversation with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
According to the head of state, the new aid package consists of two parts. The main portion, namely £7bn, will be allocated for Ukraine's economic support. These resources are intended for use over three years.
A further £3bn will constitute British export support. These funds will be used primarily for the supply of necessary weapons required to strengthen defence. The President emphasised that this is additional financing, which complements rather than replaces the annual aid that London already provides to Kyiv.
(The conversation with UK Prime Minister Burnham was very good, and we are grateful to Britain for its consistent, strong, and truly leading support. Today there is a strong decision by Britain for additional financial support totalling £10bn: £7bn in economic support for the next three years, plus £3bn in British export support, primarily for the supply of necessary weapons that will strengthen our defence of life. This is in addition to the annual support that Britain already provides to Ukraine), Zelensky said.
Volodymyr Zelensky assessed London's decision as timely, particularly against the backdrop of continued Russian aggression. In his view, strengthening international support must demonstrate to Moscow that it will not be able to leave the Ukrainian state alone with the consequences of the war.
(A truly strong step and very timely – precisely when Russia should see and feel that Ukraine will not be left alone with the problems that Russia seeks to scale. Every step towards strengthening Ukraine brings Russia closer to the idea that they must end this war of theirs), the President stressed.
A separate point of discussion between Volodymyr Zelensky and Andy Burnham was sanctions policy. The President of Ukraine noted that the United Kingdom intends to continue maintaining a principled stance on sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.
The head of state emphasised that London's consistency on this issue is an important example for the international community. (Of course, we also discussed sanctions policy with Andy, and Britain will continue to be principled on this. This is a globally important example), Zelensky added.
