Ministry of Development prepares to launch civil aviation in Ukraine before the end of the war

Preparation for the resumption of flights continues

The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development is working on preparations for the restoration of airport operations. The main goal is to ensure the infrastructure is ready for the launch of civil flights, which may resume even before the official cessation of hostilities.

Comment from the Deputy Minister

The initiative was confirmed by Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development. He emphasised the need to be ready to launch civil aviation at a specific moment.

«Ми точно працюємо над тим, щоб такі можливості були. Або під час повномасштабного вторгнення, або вже після нього, але ми маємо бути готові в конкретний момент запустити цивільну авіацію» (We are definitely working to ensure such possibilities exist. Either during the full-scale invasion or after it, but we must be ready to launch civil aviation at a specific moment), the official stated.

Why the launch is being delayed

Discussions on the possibility of opening the airspace for civilian aircraft have been ongoing for quite some time. However, the implementation of these plans is hindered by constant air raid alerts and the threat to passenger aircraft while flying over the country's territory, making it impossible to take practical steps at this stage.
