Border guards from the Chop detachment of the State Border Guard Service discovered 4,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes in a wagon carrying iron ore coils on the Uzhhorod – Matiyevtsi route.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) reports that officers from the Chop detachment discovered a large batch of tobacco products hidden in a freight train. The inspection took place at the Pavlovo border crossing, where the train was travelling from Ukraine to Slovakia.
According to the data, the Uzhhorod – Matiyevtsi service consisted of 45 wagons loaded with iron ore coils. It was during the inspection of one of these wagons that the inspection team, assisted by operational officers, noticed an anomaly in the cargo.
4,000 packs of cigarettes were found inside the cargo. The tobacco products lacked Ukrainian excise duty stamps, indicating their smuggled nature.
The train inspection procedure is currently ongoing. Border guards are establishing all details and circumstances of the committed offence.
