Detention of case suspects

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, together with detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, uncovered a scheme to bribe a judge in Zakarpattia Oblast. Law enforcement officers detained the head of a construction company and his accomplice, who are suspected of attempting to transfer an improper benefit.

Details of the corruption scheme

According to the investigation, the perpetrators attempted to secure the cancellation of a court ban on the construction of a nine-storey residential building with 450 apartments. Previously, a local court, reviewing a lawsuit filed by residents of the adjacent area, prohibited the continuation of construction work on this plot.

The head of the construction company and the husband of the land plot owner decided to influence a judge of the local court to lift the restrictions. To transfer the funds, they involved a judge of the Zakarpattia Court of Appeal, with whom one of the suspects had long-standing friendly relations.

Amount of the improper benefit

The participants of the scheme expected to obtain the desired court ruling, which would allow the resumption of the residential complex construction, for 10,000 US dollars. Law enforcement officers are currently establishing the circumstances of the case.
