Verdict in Tragic Accident

The Svytoshyn District Court of Kyiv has concluded the trial in the criminal case against Oleksiy Tandyr, former head of the Makariv District Court. The judge found him guilty of causing a road traffic accident that resulted in a fatality and sentenced him to nine years of imprisonment.

According to the investigation, the incident occurred late at night on 25 May 2023. Tandyr was driving a car while under the influence of alcohol. The accident resulted in the death of National Guard member Vadym Bondarenko.

Investigation Difficulties

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident was accompanied by numerous scandals. Experts revealed that after his detention, the suspect attempted to obstruct the establishment of the truth. In particular, instead of providing the required biological samples for analysis, the judge submitted water and saliva, attempting to deceive the investigation.

Despite these actions, the fact that Tandyr was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident was later officially confirmed.

Preventive Measure Selection Process

The court remanded the suspect in custody. In January this year, Oleksiy Tandyr was allowed to leave the pre-trial detention centre on bail. The bail amount was 20 million hryvnia. In February, the bail was reduced to 20 million hryvnia.
