Nigel Farage, leader of the British right-wing party Reform UK, stated his intention to conduct a detailed analysis of the mechanism for providing support to Ukraine. He cited fears that some of the funds may be misappropriated as the main reason for these intentions. At the same time, the politician emphasised that the threat posed by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, remains extremely serious.

Concerns over the use of budget funds

Farage called Ukraine "one of the most corrupt countries on earth". He stressed that he is concerned about where part of the British financial aid has been directed.

«Я ніколи не говорив, що ми не повинні підтримувати Україну — ніколи. Але я казав, що хотів би ретельно вивчити ситуацію, щоб переконатися, що гроші британських платників податків не поглинає корупція» (I have never said that we should not support Ukraine — never. But I have said that I would like to examine the situation carefully to ensure that British taxpayers' money is not swallowed by corruption), said the leader of Reform UK.

According to data from the British government published in July 2026, the United Kingdom has provided Ukraine with aid totalling £25 billion since the start of the full-scale war in February 2022.

Position on energy purchases

The politician, who is considered a long-time ally of US President Donald Trump, also expressed his position on energy issues. He voiced disagreement with the American leader's decision to purchase diesel fuel from Russia.

In addition, Farage criticised European Union countries, claiming that they are purchasing "huge volumes of Russian petrochemical products" even during the ongoing war.

Comment on elections in Ukraine

Speaking about domestic political processes in Ukraine, the leader of Reform UK refused to support Trump's call for a change of power in Ukraine. At the same time, he emphasised the need to hold elections at some point.

«Я розумію, що у Трампа й Зеленського досить бурхливі відносини, тож це не є особливим сюрпризом. У певний момент Україні потрібні вибори. Це правильно, якщо вона хоче бути країною, яка прагне західних цінностей. А коли ці вибори відбудуться — побачимо. Зрештою, у нас же були вибори й під час Другої світової війни» (I understand that Trump and Zelensky have quite stormy relations, so this is not a particular surprise. At some point, Ukraine needs elections. That is right if it wants to be a country that aspires to Western values. And when these elections will take place — we shall see. After all, we had elections during the Second World War too), Farage added.

Thus, the politician did not oppose providing aid to Ukraine as such, but called for increased attention to the use of British funds and raised the discussion about future electoral processes in Ukraine.
