Clarification on the figure of 750

Russian Human Rights Ombudsman Yana Lantratova commented on information previously released by Melania Trump, who cited 750 as the number of people evacuated from Oleshky. According to Lantratova, this figure reflected only the number of spots prepared for departure, not the actual number of people who left the city.

«750 людям була надана можливість виїхати. Ми про всяк випадок підготували таку кількість місць, дуже багато автобусів потім їхало назад. Звісно, значно менше ніж 750 людей виїхало. Більше того, скажу чесно, у нас там просто не було ні часу, ні можливості рахувати людей, ми не рахували їх по головах» (750 people were given the opportunity to leave. We prepared that number of spots just in case, and many buses then drove back. Of course, significantly fewer than 750 people left. Moreover, to be honest, we simply had neither the time nor the opportunity to count the people there; we did not count them head by head), the Russian ombudsman emphasised.

Position of the conflicting parties

Currently, neither the Ukrainian nor the Russian side has officially announced the exact number of Oleshky residents evacuated. Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets stated that, in accordance with the agreements reached, both countries have no right to publish data on the number of evacuated individuals, nor to disclose information about which state they decided to move to.

Factual data on the movement of people

According to separate data, the majority of Oleshky residents under Russian control decided to remain in the city. Among those who did leave, more people departed for Ukraine than for Russian territory. It is worth noting that some people were evacuated by Moscow before the arrival of the main humanitarian mission.
