Passengers of the 'Odyssey' ship, who were on an indefinite round-the-world voyage, were suddenly asked to disembark in Cambodia. The vessel's operators explain this by a lack of funds to purchase fuel, which forced them to temporarily suspend the ship's operation.

Official company position

Villa Vie Residences, the company managing the project, announced a change in the voyage plans. The statement reads:

«На жаль, нам не вдалося забезпечити необхідну кількість пального для продовження рейсу. У зв’язку з цим сьогодні вдень «Odyssey» тимчасово припиняє експлуатацію» (Unfortunately, we were unable to secure the necessary amount of fuel to continue the voyage. In connection with this, 'Odyssey' temporarily suspends operations today in the afternoon), the company emphasised, ordering passengers to leave the vessel.

Rising fuel costs

According to the company, the main cause was a sharp increase in fuel expenses. If previously the average monthly fuel cost per cabin was around $1,800, in some regions of Asia these figures rose to $8,000.

Living conditions on board

As noted by The Independent, many passengers sold their homes to settle on board the 'Villa Vie Odyssey' and set off on an indefinite round-the-world voyage in 2024.
