US President makes unusual request to tech giant leadership

US President Donald Trump, during a speech at a rally in South Carolina, recounted his attempt to influence the name of a geographical feature on digital maps. He stated that he had approached Google CEO Sundar Pichai with a request to rename the Atlantic Ocean. According to the American leader, he wanted the body of water to be named after the US or his own name on the maps.

Trump's rationale and top manager's reaction

Trump explained his choice, noting that he likes only two oceans: the Atlantic and the Pacific. "I would not put 'Trump' or 'America' on any other ocean except these two. So we seriously looked at the Atlantic," the president emphasised.

He said he had called Pichai to find out if the company could implement such an initiative. However, according to Trump's account, the Google CEO categorically refused. "No-no-no. I am not doing this one... Oceans are different, sir. They wash many countries. Please do not ask us to do this," Trump quoted Pichai as saying.

Outcome of the conversation and press comment

After receiving the refusal, Donald Trump decided not to insist on his point. "So I guess I will pass. Pass? I think let it stay the Atlantic Ocean," he concluded.

News of this incident was published by the British newspaper The Guardian, which also contacted Google representatives for a comment on the matter.
