The media landscape has lost an experienced professional. The death of Andriy Prokopchuk, who held the positions of news producer and accreditation producer at the "Fakty ICTV" studio, was announced by the programme's chief editor, Viktor Soroka, on his Facebook page.
The farewell ceremony for the deceased will take place on 30 October. Those wishing to pay their last respects are scheduled to gather at 11:00 near the main entrance to the Southern Cemetery in the village of Vita-Poshtova (Kyiv region).
In a comment to the publication "Detektor Media", Viktor Soroka stated that Andriy Prokopchuk joined the ICTV news service in September 2009, having transferred from the 5th Channel. His main area of activity was finding topics for stories, identifying subjects and experts, as well as organising the accreditation of journalists for various events.
(Perhaps there is no ministry, structure, or organisation in Kyiv that Andriy did not approach or to which he did not write letters of appeal. One of his last tasks was obtaining permission to use video from the Nobel Committee), emphasised the chief editor of "Fakty ICTV".
According to Viktor Soroka, Andriy Prokopchuk was distinguished by his encyclopaedic knowledge. He spoke English and German fluently and also had a good command of Polish. Colleagues knew the deceased as a "great and good child", which reflected his sincerity and constant readiness to help.
(His persistence sometimes captivated, sometimes surprised, and sometimes irritated, but he could reach anyone anywhere and at any time. And that was his special talent. Andriy Prokopchuk was part of our family, and now we will definitely miss him), added Viktor Soroka in his post.
"Fakty ICTV" journalist Olha Chaiko also shared her memories, emphasising her colleague's remarkable persistence.
(He would start preparing my trips to Kherson and Sumy and other assignments as soon as I suddenly had a thought about a trip somewhere. How did he guess it?!! He pulled on all the strings, found people, insisted, persuaded. As if it was needed by him, not by me), wrote Olha Chaiko on her Facebook page.
Хоча його знали часто краще, ніж нас, бо він був легендою, насправді» ("Call-call" was our meme and a certain code. And every morning, as soon as I got angry, I heard from him: "You're awesome"! Although he was often known better than us, because he was a legend, truly), recalls the journalist.
Olha Chaiko also highlighted Andriy's deep knowledge, his kindness, and his caring attitude towards those around him.
(Formally, Russia did not kill him. His heart and, perhaps, loneliness killed him. Although... who would say that at least one of the deaths is not connected to this vile war? For us, it was a shock, and now silence has fallen), she noted.
