Two industrialists who were previously subject to European Union restrictions related to the situation in Belarus will be able to receive relief from the sanctions regime. This change is linked to the outcomes of several court hearings where their lawsuits were upheld.
EU ambassadors to make decision on 7 October
As reported by Radio Svoboda journalist Rikard Yozvyak, the meeting of EU member state ambassadors scheduled for Wednesday, 7 October, is set to be the date when two names are removed from the sanctions list in force against Belarus.
"Завтра посли ЄС викреслять російського та білоруського бізнесменів Михайла Гуцерієва та Віктора Шевцова зі списку санкцій проти Білорусі, оскільки вони виграли кілька справ у суді ЄС", - розповів він. ("Tomorrow EU ambassadors will strike Russian and Belarusian businessmen Mykhailo Gutseriev and Viktor Shevtsov from the sanctions list against Belarus, as they won several cases in the EU court," he said.)
Status of restrictions for Mykhailo Gutseriev
It is worth noting that a full release from sanctions will not occur for one of the individuals. According to Yozvyak, Mykhailo Gutseriev will remain subject to European Union restrictive measures. This is due to the fact that he was recently included in a separate sanctions list against the Russian Federation for undermining Ukraine's territorial integrity.
