Historical turning point in global processes
Finnish President Alexander Stubb expressed the conviction that the planet is undergoing a fundamental change, the scale of which can be compared to the end of World War II. In his view, the system of international relations that emerged after the end of the Cold War has exhausted itself, and the current world order is rapidly transforming.
Speech to students of the College of Europe
The Finnish leader voiced these assessments during a speech to students of the College of Europe. He drew attention to the fact that today's youth are beginning their adult lives in the context of growing international instability and uncertainty.
«Я починав навчання в епоху світла, а ви починаєте в епоху темряви» (I started my studies in an era of light, while you are starting in an era of darkness), Stubb emphasised.
Concern about the future
Comparing the present time with the period of forming a new order after 1945, the President of Finland reflected the anxiety prevailing among European leaders. They are concerned about the weakening of established instruments of global cooperation and changes in the security architecture.
According to Stubb, the world has reached a stage of deep transformations, the consequences of which will determine the nature of international relations in the coming years.
