Announcement of large-scale Russian fuel supplies

US President Donald Trump released information about an agreement reached with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The main topic of the negotiations was the supply of diesel fuel to the American and global markets. According to the head of the White House, this initiative is intended to serve as a tool for lowering market fuel prices.

Specific volumes and supply schedule

In his statement, Donald Trump detailed the export plans. He emphasised that Russia is obliged to immediately supply over 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel. Furthermore, as the US President claims, a further 500,000 tonnes are to arrive during November, followed immediately by one million tonnes.

In addition, Trump noted that, depending on the current state of Russian refineries, additional supplies of three million tonnes of diesel fuel are possible in the near future.

Link to geopolitical factors

The American leader links the expected drop in fuel prices with two factors: full US control over the Strait of Hormuz and agreements regarding Russian energy resources. He stressed that access to cheaper fuel will become a priority for demographic groups such as American farmers, ranch owners, and long-haul truck drivers.

Separately, Donald Trump emphasised that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons.
