Over 650 kilograms of suspicious substance seized at the border

During the inspection of a vehicle at the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, law enforcement officers discovered a large batch of plant material that, by its external characteristics, resembles the narcotic kratom. The total gross weight of the seized bricks was 652.8 kilograms.

How the vehicle was stopped

The incident occurred at the Tysa border crossing. Border guards from the Chop detachment, together with operational officers, were inspecting a Mercedes minibus with Ukrainian registration that was entering Ukrainian territory. During the examination, hidden compartments were discovered: the bricks were placed in the niche above the driver's seat, as well as behind the passenger seats.

Legal qualification and seizure of property

In addition to the plant material, the value of which will be determined after an expert examination, law enforcement officers seized the vehicle itself. Its market value exceeds 255,000 hryvnia.

Law enforcement was notified of possible signs of criminal offences under Articles 305 and 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. These provisions relate to the smuggling of narcotic substances, as well as their illegal production, storage, transportation, or sale.

The circumstances of the incident are currently being established.
