Ukrainian authorities are beginning to implement new parking organisation standards aimed at ensuring convenience for families with their youngest passengers. The Cabinet of Ministers approved a regulatory act prepared by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which establishes clear requirements for infrastructure for vehicles transporting children under the age of three.

Infrastructure changes and markings

According to the approved decree, specially designated zones must appear in parking lots. They will be visually separated using road markings and signs depicting a baby stroller. The use of special identification signs is also provided for to identify such vehicles.

The new regulation contains specific quantitative and spatial limitations. The share of allocated spaces must not be less than 5% of the total capacity of the parking lot, but there must be at least one such space. An important condition is the location: the distance from the parking lot entrance to the special parking space must not exceed 50 metres.

Requirements for drivers and documents

The right to use the designated zones is granted on the condition that the driver has a document certifying the child's age. This document may be issued in either paper or electronic format. The use of special parking spaces is not permitted without a confirming document.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Vyhivskyi announced the decision, emphasising that these measures are intended to make parking more convenient for families with small children and to take their needs into account in the traffic system. According to the head of the MIA, this decision is one of the steps towards improving the organisation of traffic and parking in Ukraine.

The minister's public statement does not specify a date for the new rules to come into force, nor does it detail the mechanism for the practical implementation of all planned changes.
