Appeal to Tehran

US Vice President JD Vance, acting on the instructions of President Donald Trump, sent a letter to the head of Iran's security service, Mohsen Rezaei. The document contains a proposal to resume peace negotiations between the two countries. The Wall Street Journal reports this.

Washington's motivation

It is noted that the US administration is trying to avoid launching a new military operation against Iran. This step is linked to the upcoming US Congressional mid-term elections, which will take place next week.

Disagreements on terms

Currently, the parties are discussing only the general parameters of possible negotiations. Washington demands that Tehran make concessions regarding its nuclear programme. In return, Iran insists on the immediate easing of economic restrictions.

The further course of the negotiation process will depend on whether both sides can agree on the terms for resuming dialogue.
