High Anti-Corruption Court fines Andrii Klochko for absence from hearings

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) decided to impose a financial penalty on People's Deputy Andrii Klochko. The reason was that on 20 October, the politician failed to appear at the scheduled session, citing that he was on a business trip in Poland. According to his explanation, he was participating in a seminar of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council.

Court refuses to postpone the trial

Previously, the panel of judges rejected the request to postpone the hearings. The deputy was offered to join the proceedings via a video conferencing system. However, Klochko did not use this opportunity. His defence counsel justified the inability to join the proceedings due to security restrictions in force at special facilities. Following this, the judge scheduled the next session for 3 November and imposed a fine on the People's Deputy.

Allegations of illegal enrichment

The criminal case is being examined based on the version of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). According to the investigation, during the period of 2020–2021, Andrii Klochko illegally enriched himself by an amount exceeding 11.3 million hryvnias.

The charges relate to the purchase of Mercedes-Benz and Tesla cars, land plots, apartments, and a residential house. As law enforcement officials claim, part of this property was registered in the name of the deputy's mother and sister. The court trial of the case is currently ongoing.
