Mark Zuckerberg says US intelligence agencies can read messenger messages

Mark Zuckerberg stated that US intelligence agencies have the capability to read messages in messengers, but doing so requires hacking the user's phone itself.

In response to a statement by Tucker Carlson, who claimed that US intelligence agencies had obtained information about his plans to interview Putin via the Signal messenger, Zuckerberg clarified that it is unlikely that Signal's encryption was broken, as it is already sufficiently protected, similar to WhatsApp.

He emphasised that Meta itself does not have access to the content of encrypted messages, as when data is transmitted via WhatsApp, Meta's servers cannot see its content. 

For intelligence agencies to read these messages, they must hack the device. Zuckerberg also noted that organisations such as the NSA or the CIA likely possess the means to do so and may use various methods. 

He advised users to regularly delete messages to prevent them from being read later.
