Ukraine carries out first biomethane export to Europe

On 6 February 2025, the Energy Customs of Ukraine's State Customs Service processed the first customs declaration for the export of biomethane. The news was confirmed by the customs press service via its official Facebook page.

According to reports, the customs declaration concerned the first batch of biomethane exported to Europe using pipeline transport. This event is expected to open new opportunities for the agri-industrial sector and attract investors to the bioenergy field.

The export of biomethane is a significant step for Ukraine, which has considerable potential in producing this gas from organic waste. Such a move contributes to the development of agriculture and the country's sustainable energy development.

The Energy Customs emphasised that Ukraine has every chance of becoming a key supplier of green energy in the European market. This initiative helps the country move towards economic growth and energy independence.

As previously reported, by the beginning of January, Ukrainian producers had already injected the first one million cubic metres of biomethane into underground gas storage facilities.
