The Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) published the results of its birth monitoring for 2025. According to official data, 7,249 newborns with foreign citizenship were born on the territory of the Czech Republic during the reporting period. The vast majority of them, specifically 4,211 children, are Ukrainian citizens. This means that 58% of all foreign newborns in the country hold Ukrainian citizenship.
On a national scale, the share of children with foreign citizenship accounts for 9.3% of the total number of newborns. In other words, approximately every eleventh child born in the country has foreign status. In Prague, this indicator is even higher: 23% of newborns hold foreign citizenship, which corresponds to nearly every fourth child in the capital.
Meanwhile, the overall birth rate in the Czech Republic continues to decline. By the end of 2025, approximately 77,600 children were born in the country.
The statistics take into account the child's citizenship, not the nationality of their parents. It is important to understand that being born on the territory of the Czech Republic does not entail the automatic granting of Czech citizenship to the newborn.
