Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the number of bots on the internet had decreased following the strikes on Yandex company data centres. However, specialists and relevant resources refute this claim. According to their data, available information indicates only temporary failures in the operation of web services, but does not confirm a reduction in the activity of automated accounts on social media.
What Cloudflare charts actually show
Screenshots with Cloudflare data are being widely shared online, with the authors of the publications presenting them as evidence of the impact of the strikes on bot operations. According to their authors, these images show that the activity of Russian bots has dropped to almost zero.
However, the antibot4navalny account, which specialises in tracking bot farm activity, emphasised an important detail: these metrics characterise the volume of automated requests to various websites, not the level of bot activity on social platforms.
Thus, the published infographics illustrate disruptions in the operation of dozens of services caused by the strikes on Yandex data centres, but do not confirm that the number of bots on social media has decreased.
Additionally, according to data from another service, which is also cited in the relevant publications, the level of bot activity remains approximately at the previous level.
