Google blocks access to mobile casinos for Ukrainians

The Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL), together with Google LLC, continues its active fight against illegal gambling. As part of the partnership, Google Play has blocked access for users in Ukraine to 26 mobile applications linked to illegal gambling activities. Apparently, Dragon Money is among them. Users have been complaining for several days that the casino is inaccessible from Ukraine.

Effective cooperation with Google

In recent years, KRAIL has actively engaged with international companies to protect the Ukrainian market from illegal gambling. Cooperation with Google is particularly important, given that the Google Play platform holds a dominant position in the Android app market. According to Statista, in 2024, more than 70% of Ukrainians use Android-based devices, making the blocking of such applications an extremely significant step.

Why it is important to restrict access to illegal gambling

Illegal mobile casinos not only evade tax obligations but also pose a threat to users. Such applications often fail to ensure data protection, putting players' confidential information at risk. Furthermore, there is no oversight of game fairness, making players vulnerable to fraud.

Initial results of the blocking

According to KRAIL statistics, in 2023, more than 150 mobile gambling applications operated in Ukraine without a licence. The blocking of 26 of them on Google Play is just the first step towards cleaning up the market. It is expected that such measures will not only restrict access to illegal platforms but also increase the share of licensed operators, which will have a positive impact on Ukraine's budget revenues.

Future cooperation

KRAIL plans to continue expanding its interaction with major technology companies. In parallel, the possibility of blocking such applications at the level of internet service providers is being considered. Successful cooperation with Google demonstrates how international corporations can help bring order to local markets.
