Lantratova reports agreement with Kyiv on regular humanitarian missions

Yana Lantratova, the Human Rights Commissioner in the Russian Federation, reported that an agreement has been reached between Ukraine and the Russian Federation regarding the organisation of regular humanitarian missions. This arrangement was made following the completion of the operation to rescue people from Oleshky.

Negotiation outcomes and current situation

According to Lantratova, the operation in Oleshky was the result of a long, months-long working and negotiation process. She emphasised that despite the completion of the specific mission, living conditions in this settlement remain extremely difficult.

«Місія завершилася. Але, на жаль, умови життя в Олешках залишаються вкрай складними. Ми домовилися про проведення регулярних гуманітарних місій, це дуже важливий крок» (The mission has ended. But, unfortunately, living conditions in Oleshky remain extremely difficult. We have agreed to conduct regular humanitarian missions, which is a very important step), she noted on the Russian social network Max.

Ombudsman interaction and Kyiv's reaction

The Russian human rights defender also added that she continues joint work with Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets. It is worth noting that official representatives of the Ukrainian authorities did not comment on this statement at the time of publication, neither confirming nor denying the existence of such an agreement.

Meanwhile, Dmytro Lubinets expressed hope the day before that the humanitarian mission in Oleshky is just the beginning. In his view, the experience gained could become the foundation for a new mechanism for responding to the most complex humanitarian crises.

«Цей досвід має потенціал стати основою нового механізму реагування на найскладніші гуманітарні кризи — механізму, в центрі якого завжди стоятимуть люди, їхня безпека та право на життя» (This experience has the potential to become the basis for a new mechanism for responding to the most complex humanitarian crises — a mechanism in which people, their safety, and the right to life will always be at the centre), he emphasised.
