Financial support for infrastructure
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu unveiled a package of measures aimed at improving learning conditions. These decisions were made against the backdrop of mass youth protests demanding attention to the state of the country's education system.
According to a post by the head of government on the social network X, €1bn is allocated for the renewal of university building funds. A further €4bn will be directed as loans with preferential rates to regions so they can carry out repairs at school facilities.
Social guarantees and staffing changes
In addition to repairing premises, the government has committed to reviewing financial support for students. Starting in 2027, grants will be adjusted to account for the inflation rate.
Furthermore, expanded opportunities for higher education students have been announced: 15,000 additional places in higher education institutions will be created in 2027 and 2028. In addition, 500 new teaching posts will be established, along with 500 positions for psychologists, nurses, and social workers.
Changes in the organisation of the educational process
The government plans to limit the number of students in classes and introduce a guaranteed one-hour lunch break.
Admission campaign reform
The Parcoursup system for admission to French universities will be replaced in 2028. In 2027, it is promised to become more transparent.
As Sébastien Lecornu noted, the development of these changes was based on an analysis of appeals received from 3,000 lyceums across the country.
