Occupation of transport infrastructure

Workers from the former Ilva steel complex carried out a protest action by seizing the territory of Genoa airport. This was reported by the publication Il Fatto Quotidiano.

Cause of conflict with state commissioners

The protest event was a reaction to proposals from the company's crisis management leaders appointed by the state. The commissioners plan to double the number of employees who are on extraordinary temporary unemployment.

According to the procedures initiated, the temporary layoff programme is being expanded to a maximum of 8,622 workers. This is almost twice the current number of 4,450 people. In addition, the duration of these measures is being extended to 28 February 2027.

Demands of the protesters

One of the participants in the action, Armando Palombo, stated: "Ми залишимося тут, доки цей уряд не дасть нам відповіді. Доки уряд, який призначив комісарів, не змусить комісарів з Риму забратися геть й не дасть нам дуже чіткої відповіді" (We will remain here until this government gives us answers. Until the government that appointed the commissioners forces the commissioners from Rome to get out and gives us a very clear answer).

The publication notes that despite the blockade, protesters are allowing passengers to pass through to the boarding gates.
