Vehicle declared as military aid found to be private property
The Dniprovskyi District Court of Zaporizhzhia city handed down a verdict against Ukrainian citizen Artem Honcharuk, who violated customs legislation during the movement of goods. The man brought a Mitsubishi L200 pickup into the country, which was formally intended to become the property of a military unit, but in fact never came under its control.
How the customs clearance took place
The incident occurred in March 2022. At that time, Honcharuk cleared the vehicle as humanitarian aid for one of the military units. This status allowed him to avoid paying customs duties when importing the vehicle. However, during an inspection conducted by the Zaporizhzhia Customs, it was established that the pickup was not listed on the balance sheet of the specified unit. In addition, the vehicle was not entered into the electronic database of the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Court verdict and size of the penalty
According to expert estimates, the value of the Mitsubishi L200 was 165,820 hryvnias and 33 kopecks. The court investigation established that during customs clearance, documents containing false information about the recipient of the vehicle were submitted. The accused himself did not appear at the hearings and did not provide the court with written explanations.
The court found Artem Honcharuk guilty under Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. He was fined an amount equal to 50% of the vehicle's value — 82,910 hryvnias and 16 kopecks. Additionally, the court ordered the confiscation of the pickup in favour of the state and the recovery of the court fee from the offender.
