Government mobilises resources to counter natural forces
South American Bolivia is on high alert for large-scale natural disasters caused by the El Niño climate phenomenon. To effectively counter the threat of droughts and floods, the country's president, Rodrigo Paz, signed a decree establishing a state of emergency. The primary objective of this decision is to mobilise the necessary resources and strengthen response measures for potential natural disasters.
Coordination of actions between security forces and authorities
The presidential decree provides for the deployment of additional rescue units. The document also requires close coordination of actions between national and regional authorities, as well as the armed forces and police.
Scale of damage from the drought
According to data from the Bolivian government, the consequences of the drought have already affected at least 78,000 families in seven of the country's nine departments. Agriculture has suffered serious losses: more than 75,000 head of cattle have died due to the hardships.
Flood threat with the onset of the rainy season
The country's authorities warn that the situation may worsen with the start of the rainy season. Floods, flash floods, and landslides are expected.
