Chinese AI-based app DeepSeek has overtaken ChatGPT in popularity on the App Store.

The model developed by DeepSeek holds the leading position among open models and successfully competes with advanced closed solutions on a global scale, according to NDTV, citing data from research firm Sensor Tower.

Little is known about the developer of this app. The company behind DeepSeek is a small startup from Hangzhou, founded in 2023, when Chinese search giant Baidu unveiled its first artificial intelligence model for mass use.
