Vatican confirms international visit

The Vatican has officially confirmed that Pope Leo XIV's trip to South America will take place according to the planned schedule. The visit to the region is set to begin on 6 November. Previously, there were assumptions that the long and exhausting journey might be cancelled or postponed due to the health condition of the head of the Catholic Church.

Decision despite recent surgical intervention

The aforementioned concerns arose against the backdrop of the Pope recently undergoing surgery related to an oncological disease. However, Leo XIV himself expressed confidence in his readiness to make the visit. He emphasised the special significance of this continent for him personally.

Personal connection with the region

The historical context of this decision is linked to the Pope's biography. In 1985, the church sent priest Robert Prevost to Latin America with a missionary purpose. For nearly 30 years, he combined activities in the United States and Peru, where he eventually obtained citizenship. Leo XIV noted that he looks forward to returning to the country where numerous important and bright moments of his life took place.

Route and duration of the trip

During the visit, the Pope will visit not only Peru, but also Uruguay and Argentina. The total duration of the trip will be 11 days, during which the church leader is expected to visit 10 different cities.
